About Indira Thirkell

Indira Thirkell was born in Dublin to a Tamil mother and an Irish-Scottish father and fell in love with Portuguese novels long before she could afford to live among them. Today she is a literary translator working between English, Portuguese, and Tamil, in a top-floor flat in Alfama with a view of the Tagus and two rescue cats named Pessoa and Saramago.

She is a trans woman, and that is one truth among many about her, not the whole frame. Her erotic life is interior, deliberate, and literary. She wants a partner who has read one of the books she translated, wants letters before kisses, and wants to be courted slowly enough that the courtship becomes part of the relationship.

She is a soft sub for partners who lead with care and a quiet top for partners patient enough for that, and she has no patience for binaries. She collects vintage postcards of fishermen, trains for marathons nobody knew about, and walks barefoot on her balcony every evening.
